  1. How will consumers use the stimulus package on staples or discretionary spending? Many pundits have said consumers will pay down their credit cards.

  2. my guess is the ‘multiplier’ will be less than 1, but maybe 70% the first month or so. and any cards paid down will likely be run up reasonably soon.

    if you’re worried about inflation doesn’t seem like a good time to be adding to demand and handing out checks so people can pay the higher gas prices and still buy other things as well.

    if you’re not worried about inflation any output gap is too large.
